Are you wondering what to wear for senior pictures? I just want to say congratulations & how excited I am for you to graduate. This is a HUGE accomplishment! If you are here, you are probably wondering how to plan what to wear for your senior pictures. No worries, I got your back! All my clients get a detailed style guide from a professional high school senior photographer!
This informative blog post will serve as a starting point on choosing what to wear as you begin planning your Salt Lake or Ogden photoshoot.
Step #1: Determine your Session Style
Choose your style first before picking a location. This allows you to showcase your personality first and foremost – rather than prioritizing a specific background. If you love the idea of a formal look for your senior portrait session, that will serve as the whole VIBE for your session. If you are worried about locations here in Utah. No worries. I have a location guide for my clients to pick from here in Utah. When you book with me I will provide senior picture location ideas.
Step #2 Color Schemes
There are lots of different color schemes you can choose for your senior pictures. I strongly suggest sticking to neutrals. When I say neutrals, I don’t just mean white, beige, and grey. Every color in the rainbow has a neutral tone or a muted version. You can check out my style guide.
Step #3 Outfits for your Senior Portrait Session
I have a soft spot for effortlessly chic outfits. There’s something timeless about pairing jeans with a cute top and comfortable tennis shoes. It’s a versatile combination that never goes out of style. If the occasion calls for it, feel free to bring along 1-3 outfit changes to add variety.
One piece of advice I always give is to try on your outfit before heading out. This not only ensures a perfect fit but also allows you to wear something that makes you feel both comfortable and confident. Ultimately, fashion is about expressing yourself in a way that resonates with who you are.

Step #4 Enjoy your Session
Let your true self shine! Your session is all about capturing your unique essence. Feel free to steer the direction of your shoot towards what reflects you best. If you’re involved in any high school activities, consider bringing along props that showcase your interests and personality. This personal touch adds depth and authenticity to your photos, making them even more memorable.
Step #5 Delivered Gallery
Congratulations on receiving your gallery! Now comes the fun part – deciding where to print your photos. A great starting point is Zazzle, one of my top choices. They offer a wide range of templates that you can customize for your invitations and print them right there.
If you’re specifically seeking a printing service for your invitations, Prints of Love is another fantastic option. While they don’t provide a ton of template options directly, platforms like Etsy offer a plethora of designs to choose from. As a bonus, I run an Etsy Shop where I sell my own templates, perfect for those who want something unique. Additionally, if you’d like a personalized design, I’m more than happy to create one tailored to your preferences.
